Tips on planning a two-week trip to Italy

We were clear that we would spend the entire 2-week period exploring Italy although friends had recommended that we also include other countries specially Switzerland. We were happy that we stuck to our plan and have happy and vivid memories of a wonderful Holiday in Italy. After reading in the Internet we gathered that for a first-timer to Italy it would be worthwhile to stick to the big three: Rome,Florence and Venice. This was sound advise as we later experienced.We also concluded that  travel by Trenitalia within Italy is highly recommended.On looking up the air fares and schedules it transpired that flying into Rome and flying out of Milan was our best option.In hindsight , we should perhaps have taken the train back to Rome from Venice and spent some more time in our favourite city in Italy- its capital even if it means an expensive air ticket.

There was another major considerations while planning the itinerary.One avoid waters as my wife suffered from hydrophobia(she even did not want to do Venice, but here my wishes prevailed).
